How I Found My Dream Holiday Accommodation in Chania

I love looking back over my holidays and planning my next ones. After a long hard day at work I like to pour myself a glass of wine and settle down on the sofa with my iPad. It’s cold, bleak and dark outside, and I can’t help but think back to a time when we were somewhere warm and sunny…

Holidays in Chania

This summer my partner and I chose to holiday in Chania, on the Greek island of Crete. It’s somewhere we’ve wanted to visit for simply ages. We adore the Greek islands, and Crete simply has so much to offer. We both love history and mythology, so Crete made so much sense – it’s the birthplace of Zeus after all! And that’s before we get to the Minoans, Venetians, Ottomans and Greeks who have all left their mark on this beautiful island. I’d read all about Crete online, learning about her history and her cities. I saw photos of Chania, with its pretty lighthouse, elegant harbour and winding cobbled streets. I fell in love. We really like to treat ourselves on holiday, so I searched around for the best boutique hotels in Chania. I wanted to experience the ultimate luxury accommodation in Chania. I looked through several hotels, and started to make a shortlist. Then I found the Domus Renier Boutique Hotel, and I fell in love all over again.

Domus Renier Boutique Hotel Chania

I pored over the photos on the website and realised I was looking at a luxury hotel like no other I’d seen before. Domus Renier Boutique Hotel is a sea view hotel in Chania’s old harbour in a refurbished historic building. As I read more, I discovered we would be staying in a real Venetian family townhouse that could trace its history back over five centuries. A truly historical boutique hotel in Chania, with a story to tell – Domus Renier Boutique Hotel was the perfect choice for us! And then I started looking at the rooms.

Our Luxury Accommodation in Chania

Wow. As I clicked through the website I couldn’t believe my eyes. This luxury small hotel in Chania had 9 rooms and suites for us to choose from, every one of them different from the other. I’d never come across that in a hotel before. So much character! So much soul! And what a stylish hotel too! My partner and I spent many enjoyable hours discussing what type of room or suite we wanted. Would we choose a Classic Double Room with a sea view of Chania harbour? Or perhaps we could have a Junior Suite with our own private outdoor Jacuzzi. We could just imagine padding out onto our balcony in the evenings and watching the moonlight glistening off the hodge podge of roofs in Chania old town. My partner fancied the Deluxe Suite, with its sea view of the harbour, and a loft space for me to do my blogging in the mornings without disturbing his lie-in. I decided that we were more like Marussa and Renier, so we belonged in the Honeymoon Suite, where we could sit in our oriel bay window with its furnished balcony, and gaze out over our view of the harbour and the endless horizon of the sea. I loved the idea of a pretty painted ceiling relief too (such details!), and there was even a loft too. He was convinced, and we booked it! If we bring our friends to the Domus Renier Boutique Hotel next year we may even try the Master Suite, with its two bedrooms. It’s even got space for a family, and who knows what might happen in the future?!

Our Chania Town Hotel

With our flights, transfer, and accommodation in Chania at Domus Renier Boutique Hotel booked, all we had to do was excitedly count down the days until our Cretan adventure. I read all about what we could do in Crete, and as the holiday got closer, I found myself daydreaming at work about what we could look forward to. And then, before I knew it, the day had arrived. I gazed down from the aeroplane window at the bright blue sea, and the rugged landscape of Crete. We touched down in Chania, and stepped off the plane to a blast of sunshine and heat. Our transfer whisked us from the airport, and to the entrance of Domus Renier Boutique Hotel in Chania old town. We had arrived! We stepped into the historic courtyard, and felt instantly at peace. When they opened the door to our Honeymoon Suite it was everything we could have dreamed of, and more. Light flooded in from the windows overlooking the harbour. The suite opened out elegantly, a feast of historic touches and luxury flair. Sumptuous wooden furniture, and that painted ceiling! Every day we woke up we’d discover something new, and feel like we were in paradise. Our holiday in Chania at Domus Renier Boutique Hotel was simply magical. There’s so much to talk about, from my early morning jogs around Chania harbour to our gorgeous hotel breakfasts, and the amazing experiences we had discovering Crete. But those are stories and memories to save for another time.

I reach the end of the Chania album on the iPad. What a fantastic holiday we had at Domus Renier Boutique Hotel! I set the iPad down on the coffee table and close my eyes. I can see myself back in that luxury Honeymoon Suite in Chania. I open my eyes and pick up the iPad. I start looking at winter flights to Crete. Domus Renier Boutique Hotel is open all year round after all! And it would be a shame not to sample a different one of their luxury rooms & suites in Chania wouldn’t it…?
